The Choice of Health Care Providers among Old Order Amish in a Pennsylvania Valley

AbstractThe Amish offer an interesting mix of conventional and complementary choices regarding health care and health care professionals. Based on the author's experiences in an Amish community located in a valley of central Pennsylvania, these culturally based advantages and disadvantages in choices are discussed. The article concludes with a set of recommendations for developing improved and culturally appropriate practices for the Amish and their interactions with health care providers.
