The Amish offer an interesting mix of conventional and complementary choices regarding health care and health care professionals. Based on the author's experiences in an Amish community located in a valley of central Pennsylvania, these culturally based advantages and disadvantages in choices are discussed. The article concludes with a set of recommendations for developing improved and culturally appropriate practices for the Amish and their interactions with health care providers.Downloads
